MEET OUR FOUNDERS

I come from a family of scientists. We own research laboratories specializing in testing materials and products. Safety for consumers and the environment is a top priority for us. In the research lab, we have worked behind the scenes on many of the products you use every day. "Clean Beauty" is more than just a buzzword - safe ingredients is in our DNA. Our mission is to create a community that empowers consumers with expert knowledge to make informed decisions about their skin and health.

I am a bio-analytical chemist with a wealth of expertise in material science. It may surprise you to learn that all products we consume, whether they are natural or synthetic, are made up of chemicals. Having studied material science extensively, I have gained an in-depth understanding of the potential benefits and drawbacks of different chemicals and how they can impact both the human body and the environment.
WE ARE A MOTHER-DAUGHTER DUO IN SCIENCE AND WE ARE HERE TO CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE SKINCARE AND YOUR PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS.
DISCOVERING ARLINGTON
Hi there, it's Mary ๐๐ผ. Let me share with you the inspiring story of how Arlington Ave came into existence. It all started in my family's research laboratory, where I witnessed countless product formulations that were filled with complicated ingredients that only a pHd analytical chemist could understand. As someone who struggled with sensitive skin and breakouts, I tried various products, but nothing seemed to work. In fact, using too many products at once led to my skin becoming even more sensitized.
After conducting some research, I discovered that I was using nearly 200 different chemicals in my daily beauty routine. To my dismay, I learned that I was not alone. Many women use 12 beauty products a day, exposing their skin to 168 chemicals, while men use 6 products daily with 85 ingredients, on average. This realization was alarming.
Coming from a family of problem-solvers, I asked chemists about ingredients and formulations. Most cosmetics and personal care products rely heavily on water, using it in the highest concentrations as a main ingredient. While water is inactive, using it in excess triggers the need for additional additives, such as preservatives and thickeners that do not benefit our skin or the environment.
As someone who cares about the environment and my own health, I wasn't okay with using up so much of a natural resource when there is a water-stressed crisis. I felt guilty about what I was putting on my skin and what I was putting into the environment. That's when I enlisted the help of my mom, Angela, who has over 40 years of experience in material science and bio-analytical chemistry.
Her formulation focus was different than most formulation chemists. She simplified ingredients, using those that benefit skin health first and foremost, and eliminated or minimized the use of water, preservatives and other inert ingredients whenever possible. The result was a concentrated product that fed skin more of the good ingredients while eliminating exposure to the not-so-good stuff. This approach delivers more actives to the skin and can do more with less by reducing how many ingredients are used in a product, without sacrificing quility. That's great news for people with sensitive and breakout prone skin - like mine.
In 2020, we launched Arlington Ave with a commitment to people and the environment. We create products that not only make your skin look healthy, but also make you feel good about what you're putting on your skin and what you're putting back into the world. We're proud to offer a brand that's both innovative and sustainable, providing a better way to care for your skin and the planet.
With a research laboratory of chemists and scientists, our products do more with less, minimizing the quantity of ingredients our customers use without sacrificing quality or effectiveness. And by reducing the amount of waste generated from traditional skincare products, we're demonstrating that water is not a necessary ingredient in skincare, and that concentrated products can provide superior benefits without the environmental impact or the need for excessive skincare routines.
At Arlington Ave, we're committed to making a difference in the world.

That's why we've made it our mission to create concentrated, science-forward products that replace multiple steps in your traditional skincare routine. With our multi-tasking formulations, you can achieve superior results with fewer products, reducing manufacturing waste and consumer waste, as well as your water, plastic, and carbon footprint.
We don't compromise on the health and safety of our customers or the planet. That's why we use natural, vitamin-rich ingredients that are free from harmful chemicals and non-beneficial fillers and additives. And we're proud to say that all of our products are packaged in eco-friendly glass, a plastic alternative that not only keeps our products fresh but also reduces the impact of plastic waste on our environment and on people's health.
At Arlington, we're more than just a skincare brand - we're a movement. We're committed to changing the way people think about skincare and the impact it has on the world. So why settle for a crowded market of water-heavy, wasteful products when you can join us in our quest to create a more sustainable future for all?

Turning Water Into Products
We all need a better understanding of the role of water in cosmetics and toiletries. Despite the global water crisis, many believe that the purest water is essential for these products. In fact, it is estimated that 800 million gallons of ultra-pure water are used in the manufacturing of beauty products. However, our skin is primarily composed of lipids and fats, which act as a barrier to prevent water from entering or escaping.
Water does not penetrate the skin barrier well thanks to the skinโs design that consists of fats and oils. So water evaporates quickly on the surface, leaving little benefit to the skin. Additionally, many products contain water in excess of 50%, which dilutes the active ingredients and requires chemists to use additives to create the desired texture, color, and fragrance.
Rather, we should prioritize effective active ingredients and sustainable practices. By doing so, we can reduce the environmental impact of the beauty industry and promote healthier, more resilient skin.
